The Volvo D5252T 2.5-liter diesel engine was produced by the company from 1995 to 2001 and was installed on such well-known models as the 850, S70, V70, as well as the S80 of the first years of production. This power unit is a modification of the VW 2.5 TDI diesel under the AEL index.

The engine was installed on:
- Volvo 850 in 1995 – 1996;
- Volvo S70 I (874) in 1996 – 2000;
- Volvo S80 I (184) in 1998 – 2001;
- Volvo V70 I (875) in 1996 – 2000.

Disadvantages of the D5252T engine
- This is a fairly resourceful diesel engine with direct injection and a reliable high-pressure fuel pump Bosch VE37;
- The main thing here is to monitor the cooling system, since the cylinder head is very afraid of overheating;
- Once every 120,000 km, an expensive replacement of the timing belt awaits you, and if it breaks, the valves will bend;
- The turbine runs well here, but the boost control valve often fails;
- The weak points of the engine include a vacuum pump and a mass air flow sensor.
