Only the original Puma sports coupe, which was based on the Fiesta hatchback, was equipped with the 1.7-liter Ford MHA/MHB or 1.7 Zetec SE 125ps engine, which was built between 1997 and 2001. The engine was upgraded to 155 horsepower and 162 Nm in a limited run of 500 units.

The Zetec SE line also includes internal combustion engines: FUJA, FXJA and FYDA.

Disadvantages of the Ford MHA/MHB engine
Bad fuel and spark plugs are intolerable for this motor, and the coils rapidly deteriorate;
Owners frequently have to clean the throttle and idle valve; the fuel pump frequently fails due to a clogged filter mesh in the tank; occasionally the timing belt and its bypass roller do not last the full 120,000 kilometers; and because there are no hydraulic lifters, the valves must be adjusted every 100,000 kilometers.
