Engine Hyundai G4CM

The 1.8-liter Hyundai G4CM engine was produced from 1988 to 1998 under license from Mitsubishi, because structurally it was a copy of the popular Japanese company engine with the 4G62 index. This SOHC engine is primarily known as the base powertrain of the Sonata Y2 and Y3 models.

Disadvantages of the Hyundai G4CM engine

  • A strong clatter under the hood is a sign of failure of the hydraulic lifters;
  • Vibration of the power unit indicates critical wear of one of the engine mounts;
  • Floating engine speeds are often caused by contamination of the injectors, throttle and idle speed controller;
  • However, these are all trifles, the main thing here is to monitor the condition of the belts: timing and balancers;
  • After all, the breakage of any of them almost always turns into a meeting of pistons with valves.
