The 1.6 liter Ford HWDA or 1.6 Duratec Sigma engine was assembled in Wales from 2003 to 2008 and fitted to the second generation Focus, C-MAX and Volvo as the B4164S3. This unit was distinguished from a similar engine under the SHDA index by a closed cooling jacket.

The engine was installed on:
- Ford C-Max Mk1 in 2003 – 2007;
- Ford Focus Mk2 in 2004 – 2008.

Disadvantages of the HWDA engine
- Power units of the Duratec series are quite reliable, but do not tolerate bad fuel;
- From low-quality gasoline, candles last very long, sometimes no more than 10,000 km;
- Exactly for the same reason, an expensive gasoline pump often fails here;
- In European modifications of Duratec engines with a broken timing belt, the valve bends;
- There are no hydraulic lifters here and every 100,000 km the valve will have to be adjusted.
