The engineers at the plant created the OM501LA engine specifically for their flagship Mercedes Actros trucks. The 501 diesel engine’s primary characteristics are its high power output and low fuel consumption. Internal combustion engines with six cylinders are more reliable and have longer intervals between scheduled maintenance.

Six cylinders arranged in a V make up the Mercedes OM501LA engine. Installing it on medium-duty trucks is its primary function. The cooling system uses water, and the engine has a displacement of 11.9 liters.

The basic factory configuration of this power unit is used to produce the following modifications:
- OM 541.926 and OM 541.920 – an engine with a power of 313 hp, which is intended for completing trucks of relatively low carrying capacity and operating on short and medium flights;
- OM 541.922 – 354 hp engine to complete trucks operating in a wide variety of conditions;
- OM 541.923 – 394 hp engine and the lowest fuel consumption among the 501 series power units;
- OM 541.921 and OM 541.925 – the engine with the highest power rating in the 501 series at 428 hp

The Telligent electronic system is one of the characteristics of the OM501 series motors. It guarantees the best possible distribution and adjustment of injection pressure and timing to particular engine load parameters. Fuel consumption and the quantity of harmful emissions are both positively impacted by the system’s independent determination of each cylinder’s parameters.
The Mercedes OM 501LA engines’ technological advancements and the Telligent system guarantee the truck’s comfort and quick pedal command response.
