The Mercedes OM446 is a naturally aspirated V8 turbocharged diesel engine that satisfies the “Euro-1” environmental standard and produces between 381 and 530 horsepower. An extra retarder made up of exhaust valves on the cylinder head was added to production engines after August 1991.
