The engine that powers Mercedes buses like the O405 and O408 is the Mercedes OM447. This series’ sturdy motor operates smoothly in any situation. If the OM447 is maintained correctly and on time, it can last up to 2,000,000 kilometers.

Since December 1984, Mercedes OM 447 engines have been manufactured. Power up to 204 horsepower (150 kW) was developed by the first modification. An outstanding value for the specific power is obtained because the motor only requires 6 cylinders, each of which has a volume of 12 liters.
The OM447 engine with 280 horsepower (206 kW) was introduced a year later. Compared to its predecessor, it was more efficient and produced more torque at low revs. The third Mercedes OM 447 engine modification, which produced 299 horsepower (220 kW), finally debuted in 1991. This is the same 12-liter diesel engine, but it is more potent thanks to a few new technologies.
